Following our successful deliveries for the iconic Huawei Qingpu R&D Center, Zhongbo Glass was once again selected as the trusted glass manufacturer for Building F8. This project continues Huawei’s commitment to creating a world-class research environment, wrapped in a glass facade of breathtaking scale and purity. The F8 building required a seamless, ultra-transparent skin that connects researchers with nature while ensuring robust structural safety and thermal efficiency. Our solution combines ultra-white tempered glass, SentryGlas® Plus (SGP) interlayers, a high-performance Low-E coating, and an argon-filled insulating cavity — all processed at dimensions that push the very limits of manufacturing capability.
The facade specification called for a glass make-up that delivers the highest optical quality, long-term durability, and excellent insulation. We supplied a balanced, symmetrical configuration:

All-Ultra-White (Low-Iron) Glass: Every ply is made from premium low-iron glass, resulting in a completely neutral, crystal-clear aesthetic without the greenish hue of ordinary float glass. This maximizes daylight ingress and provides perfect color rendering for interior spaces.
Outer Laminated Panel: A 10mm ultra-white tempered glass is bonded with a 2.28mm SGP interlayer to a 10mm Low-E tempered glass. The SGP provides five times the tear strength of conventional PVB, ensuring post-breakage integrity. The Low-E coating, located on the #3 surface, reflects solar heat while allowing visible light to pass through.
12mm Argon-Filled Cavity: The 12mm gap, filled with high-purity argon gas and sealed with a high-performance dual-seal spacer, drastically reduces the U-value and enhances acoustic insulation.
Inner Laminated Panel: A symmetric 10mm + 2.28mm SGP + 10mm ultra-white tempered laminate, acting as an inner safety barrier and contributing to the unit’s overall structural rigidity and sound dampening.
The maximum panel dimension for Building F8 was 12,456mm in length by 2,413mm in width. Each single panel covers approximately 30 square meters and weighs several tonnes. Processing glass at this extreme length — while maintaining full tempering, perfect lamination, and a hermetically sealed insulating cavity — is an achievement reserved for the most advanced glass processing facilities in the world.

Achieving full temper on a 12,456mm × 2,413mm sheet of 10mm ultra-white glass demands a furnace of immense size and precise thermal control. Our super-jumbo tempering furnace uses optimized heating profiles and computer-controlled air quenching to achieve a surface compression above 69 MPa across the entire surface. We successfully eliminated roller wave distortion and edge bow, guaranteeing the optical flatness that such a vast transparent facade demands.
SGP’s high stiffness makes it exceptionally difficult to laminate over such an enormous length without trapping air or creating edge defects. Our dedicated super-jumbo SGP laminating line integrates multi-stage de-airing, automated nip-roll pre-pressing, and an oversized autoclave that processes the entire 12.4-meter assembly in one cycle. The resulting laminate is bubble-free and exhibits full adhesion from edge to edge, providing unmatched structural performance.
Coupling two 12.4-meter long laminates into a perfectly aligned insulating glass unit with a uniform 12mm cavity is a feat of engineering. We deployed synchronized vacuum lifting systems, laser alignment technology, and robotic edge sealing to construct each IGU. Every panel undergoes individual testing for argon concentration and dew point to ensure decades of thermal efficiency.
Shipping 12.5-meter glass panels from our production base to Shanghai’s Qingpu district is a complex logistical operation. Our custom-designed, multi-axle transport stillages equipped with vibration-dampened mounts and impact sensors protected each glass monolith en route. Through coordinated just-in-time night deliveries and full escort protocols, every panel arrived on site dimensionally accurate and completely intact.
