When the developers of Shenzhen Bay No. 1 envisioned a panoramic glass facade that seamlessly merges the interior with breathtaking views of Shenzhen Bay, they turned to Zhongbo Glass to make the impossible possible. This ultra-premium development demanded floor-to-ceiling glass panels standing an astonishing 12 meters tall — a scale that pushes the very limits of architectural glass manufacturing. We are proud to have been entrusted as the exclusive glass fabricator for this iconic project, delivering jumbo glass panels that redefine transparency, safety, and structural performance.
Every panel we produced for Shenzhen Bay No. 1 represents the pinnacle of our engineering capabilities: a jumbo SGP laminated insulated glass unit made from low-iron glass, offering unmatched clarity, robustness, and energy efficiency. This project not only showcases our technical mastery but also cements our reputation as a global leader in oversized structural glass.
The facade demanded a glass make-up that could resist high wind loads, prevent post-breakage fallout, and provide crystal-clear views without any greenish color cast. Our solution was a symmetrical, high-performance composition:
10mm Low-Iron Tempered + 2.28mm SentryGlas® Plus (SGP) + 10mm Low-Iron Tempered + 12mm Air Cavity + 10mm Low-Iron Tempered + 2.28mm SGP + 10mm Low-Iron Tempered
This configuration is a triple barrier of safety and performance:
All Low-Iron (Ultra-Clear) Glass: We used premium low-iron glass for every ply, achieving a true neutral transparency and eliminating the inherent green tint of standard float glass. The result is a facade that looks invisible, bathing interiors in natural light with maximum color fidelity.
2.28mm SGP Interlayers: Unlike conventional PVB, SGP is a high-modulus ionoplast interlayer offering five times the tear strength and significantly higher stiffness. Even if the glass breaks, the SGP lamination holds the fragments firmly together, maintaining structural integrity and preventing catastrophic failure — a critical requirement for 12-meter-high vertical glazing.
12mm Air Cavity: The insulating air space reduces thermal transmission and sound penetration, ensuring occupant comfort in Shenzhen’s subtropical climate. Combined with the mass of the dual laminated panels, the IGU delivers outstanding acoustic insulation against the bustling bayfront environment.
Full Tempering: All 10mm plies are fully tempered, providing the necessary surface compression to withstand thermal stress and bending moments across the immense 12-meter span.
The maximum glass size reached an extraordinary 2600mm in width by 12,000mm in height. To put this in perspective, a single finished panel covers 31.2 square meters and weighs several tonnes. Fabricating a laminated insulated unit of this scale requires pushing every piece of equipment — and every technical limit — to its maximum.
Jumbo Tempering for 12-Meter Glass: Tempering a 12-meter sheet of low-iron glass without roller wave distortion, bow, or localized stress is a feat very few factories can achieve. Our super-jumbo tempering furnace, designed to process glass up to 12,000mm or longer, ensures uniform heating and rapid, even quenching. We held optical flatness to the strictest specifications, crucial for a flawless reflection on such a grand facade.
Flawless SGP Lamination at Unprecedented Dimensions: Laminating two 12-meter × 2.6-meter glass sheets with a stiff 2.28mm SGP interlayer presents extreme de-airing and autoclave challenges. Our fully automated jumbo SGP laminating line, featuring precisely controlled nip-roll pressure, vacuum bag technology, and oversized autoclaves, produced bubble-free laminates with perfect edge seal and unmatched adhesion.
Insulating Glass Assembly: Joining two colossal SGP laminates into a perfectly parallel insulating unit with a 12mm cavity demands custom-engineered assembly stations. We designed dedicated lifting, aligning, and sealing systems to guarantee a void-free dual-seal, long-term argon-equivalent retention (even with an air cavity, hermetic integrity is paramount), and zero optical distortion.
Logistics Orchestration: Moving a 12-meter-long, multi-ton glass panel from our factory in Henan to Shenzhen Bay is a logistics masterclass. We engineered bespoke 12-meter steel stillages with multi-point support, monitored real-time vibration and tilt during transport, and coordinated night-time deliveries to navigate urban roads safely. Every panel arrived on site dimensionally perfect and fully protected.
The success of Shenzhen Bay No. 1 reinforces exactly what sets Zhongbo Glass apart in the architectural glass industry:
Industry-Leading Jumbo Capacity: We are one of the very few glass processors in China — and the world — capable of fabricating SGP laminated insulated glass up to 12,000mm or larger in a single piece. Our furnaces, laminating lines, and IG lines are purpose-built for extremes.
SGP Lamination Specialists: With deep specialization in SentryGlas® Plus technology, we routinely supply structural glass for facades, canopies, balustrades, and hurricane-resistant glazing. Our SGP laminates meet the most stringent global standards for post-breakage strength and durability.
Low-Iron Glass Perfection: We understand the nuances of handling ultra-clear glass to prevent nickel sulfide inclusions and maintain spotless aesthetics. Our inspection protocol is uncompromising.
Turnkey Engineering Support: From wind-load and deflection analysis to thermal performance modeling and installation consultation, our in-house engineers worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the Shenzhen Bay No. 1 facade team to optimize every detail before production began.
Proven Mega-Project Credentials: Following our work on the Tencent Cloud Tower (7.6-meter curved panels) and other landmarks, the Shenzhen Bay No. 1 12-meter panels demonstrate our continued leadership in the jumbo architectural glass segment.
Shenzhen Bay No. 1 stands as a monument to what is achievable when visionary architecture meets Zhongbo Glass’s manufacturing excellence. We delivered 12-meter-tall, SGP-laminated, low-iron insulated glass panels that combine boundless transparency with absolute safety. This project is proof that for Zhongbo Glass, there is no such thing as “too big” or “too difficult.”
