At Zhongbo Glass, we understand that the capital city demands the exceptional. When a prestigious commercial landmark in Beijing required high-performance structural glass elements that would combine uncompromising safety, optical purity, and sleek modern design, our team was selected to deliver. The project demanded glass panels that could serve as transparent structural fins, interior feature walls, or overhead glazing — all requiring the strength and integrity that only SentryGlas® Plus (SGP) lamination can provide.
We manufactured ultra-clear, triple-ply SGP laminated glass panels that provide maximum safety and crystal-clear transparency. While the panel dimensions of 1,800mm × 2,200mm are compact by our jumbo standards, the application demanded the same rigorous engineering, precision lamination, and flawless edge finishing that define our largest structural glass projects. For Zhongbo Glass, every panel — regardless of size — is a life-safety-critical component when used in structural applications, and we treated this Beijing project with the complete dedication it deserved.
We supplied a custom laminated glass configuration optimized for structural load-bearing, safety, and optical performance:
12mm Ultra-Clear Tempered + 1.78mm SentryGlas® Plus (SGP) + 12mm Ultra-Clear Tempered + 1.78mm SGP + 12mm Ultra-Clear Tempered — Fully Laminated
This configuration provides exceptional robustness in a relatively compact format:
Three 12mm Ultra-Clear Tempered Plies: All three glass layers are made from premium low-iron glass and fully tempered to a surface compression exceeding 69 MPa. This provides four to five times the strength of annealed glass per ply, creating a redundant safety system. The ultra-clear composition eliminates any greenish tint, ensuring a completely neutral, brilliant transparency.
Dual 1.78mm SGP Interlayers: Two layers of SentryGlas® Plus ionoplast interlayer bond the glass into a monolithic structural composite. SGP offers five times the tear strength of conventional PVB and significantly higher stiffness, ensuring that even if all glass plies fracture, the entire panel remains intact, rigid, and load-bearing.
Total Thickness Exceeds 39mm: With 36mm of glass and 3.56mm of SGP, each finished panel is a dense structural slab that comfortably handles the specified loads while providing outstanding acoustic dampening and rigidity.
Precision Edge Finish: All exposed edges were CNC-ground and polished to a high-luster finish, removing micro-cracks and ensuring long-term structural durability, especially important for glass fins or point-supported installations common in Beijing’s high-end commercial interiors.
The panel dimensions of 1,800mm in width by 2,200mm in length may appear modest, but in the context of structural glass — used as fins, beams, or overhead panels — each unit is an engineered safety device. The nearly 4 square meters of laminated glass must withstand bending, impact, and continuous load without deflection or failure.
At Zhongbo Glass, we apply the same uncompromising quality control to these panels as we do to our 12-meter bridge glass. Every panel was manufactured to exact dimensional tolerances with perfectly parallel plies, complete edge-to-edge SGP adhesion, and zero optical defects.
Tempering three separate 12mm plies to identical flatness is essential for a successful multi-ply laminate. Any variation causes stress or visual distortion. Our jumbo flat tempering furnace used precisely calibrated low-iron glass recipes to produce perfectly matched plies with uniform surface compression and minimal roller wave. This guaranteed that the final laminate would be optically flat and structurally homogeneous.
Laminating three thick plies with SGP requires meticulous de-airing and autoclave control. Our process included:
Class 1 cleanroom layup to eliminate dust or contamination between plies.
Extended vacuum bag de-airing cycles specifically developed for thick SGP stacks to remove all trapped air.
Custom autoclave cycle ensuring uniform heat and pressure across every panel, achieving perfect, bubble-free bonding with full edge adhesion.
Each finished panel was inspected for clarity, adhesion, and dimensional accuracy before leaving our factory.
In Beijing’s variable climate — hot summers, cold winters — edge quality is critical for structural glass longevity. Our precision edge grinding and polishing process removed all micro-cracks and created a pristine edge that resists moisture ingress and thermal stress propagation. When installed within metal shoes or point-fixed hardware, these edges ensure decades of safe performance.
Delivering glass into central Beijing requires careful planning. We used custom protective stillages and coordinated with local authorities for smooth delivery. Our team provided full documentation, including glass strength calculations and material certifications, to meet the rigorous building code requirements of the capital city.
This Beijing landmark project underscores the core strengths that make Zhongbo Glass the partner of choice for structural glass anywhere in the country:
Absolute Precision: Whether the panel is 12 meters or 1.8 meters, our manufacturing tolerances and quality standards remain identically stringent. We treat every structural panel as a life-safety component.
SGP Lamination Mastery: Our dedicated SGP laminating lines produce flawless multi-ply laminates for floors, fins, beams, canopies, and balustrades, meeting the strictest global safety codes.
Ultra-Clear Glass Excellence: We use only premium low-iron glass, ensuring that even thick multi-ply laminates remain perfectly color-neutral — essential for high-end commercial interiors.
National Reach, Local Service: From our base in Henan, we serve projects nationwide, including the demanding Beijing market, with reliable logistics and responsive technical support.
Peerless Portfolio: This project joins our extensive portfolio of structural glass achievements across China, including the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, Huajiang Bridge, Longli River Bridge, Baoquan Xiangyun Viewing Platform, Shenxianju Nantianmen Platform, and the 9-meter Peony Painting in Luoyang. From record-length facades to compact structural fins, we deliver glass that architects and engineers trust.
In the heart of Beijing, another landmark now benefits from the safety, clarity, and precision of Zhongbo Glass. Our 1,800mm × 2,200mm ultra-clear triple-ply SGP laminated glass panels may be compact in size, but they are immense in their contribution to the building’s structural integrity and aesthetic refinement. This project is a clear statement: whether the requirement is a colossal 13-meter facade or a critical 2-meter structural fin, Zhongbo Glass brings the same dedication, technology, and engineering excellence to every single panel.
