At Zhongbo Glass, we are proud to be the chosen glass manufacturer for landmark scientific facilities across the globe. Biopolis 6 is a world-class biomedical research complex located at the heart of Singapore’s premier life sciences hub. This state-of-the-art building required a glass facade and structural glazing system that embodies precision, transparency, and uncompromising safety — values that mirror the groundbreaking research conducted within.
We were selected as the sole glass supplier for this prestigious project, tasked with delivering custom SentryGlas® Plus (SGP) laminated structural glass panels in two high-performance configurations. These components serve as both transparent facade elements and structural fins, providing essential load-bearing support while maximizing daylight for laboratory and collaboration spaces. Panel lengths reached 6,038mm, demanding flawless manufacturing and export logistics from our factory in Henan to Singapore. For Zhongbo Glass, Biopolis 6 is a testament to our ability to meet the stringent specifications of international scientific architecture with precision and reliability.
To meet the diverse structural requirements across the building — from primary fins to secondary supports and overhead glazing — we fabricated two specialized SGP laminated glass configurations, both using premium ultra-clear low-iron glass.
15mm Ultra-Clear Tempered + 2.28mm SentryGlas® Plus (SGP) + 15mm Ultra-Clear Tempered + 2.28mm SGP + 15mm Ultra-Clear Tempered — Fully Laminated
This configuration provides exceptional strength and rigidity for the building’s primary structural glass fins. Three layers of 15mm ultra-clear tempered glass are bonded with two 2.28mm SGP interlayers, creating a monolithic composite exceeding 48mm in total thickness. The SGP interlayers deliver five times the tear strength of PVB, ensuring that the fin remains load-bearing even under extreme conditions. The all-ultra-clear composition guarantees a crystal-clear appearance, allowing researchers and visitors to enjoy unobstructed views of the lush Singapore landscape.
19mm Ultra-Clear Tempered + 2.28mm SGP + 19mm Ultra-Clear Tempered — Fully Laminated
For secondary structural applications and high-strength vision panels, we supplied a thicker double-ply laminate. Two 19mm tempered low-iron plies are bonded with a 2.28mm SGP interlayer, resulting in a glass panel over 40mm thick. The increased glass thickness provides additional stiffness and impact resistance, while the SGP interlayer ensures post-breakage integrity and safety. This configuration offers a streamlined profile for zones where a triple-ply build-up is not required but where 19mm monolithic strength is essential.
The maximum glass panel size for both configurations was 6,038mm in length by 1,640mm in width, covering nearly 10 square meters per panel. While these dimensions represent a large format for structural glass fins, the true challenge lies in the precision required: each panel must be perfectly straight, free of optical distortion, and capable of withstanding Singapore’s tropical humidity and high wind loads. At Zhongbo Glass, 6-meter SGP laminates are a well-established product within our super-jumbo manufacturing envelope, and delivering them to an international client like Biopolis 6 underscores our proven export capability.
Tempering 15mm and 19mm ultra-clear glass at lengths over 6 meters requires exceptional furnace control to achieve uniform surface compression without roller-wave distortion or bow. Our super-jumbo flat tempering furnace, equipped with proprietary low-iron glass heating profiles, delivered perfectly flat, identically matched plies for each laminate. For the triple-ply Configuration A, absolute flatness across all three plies was essential to ensure a successful, stress-free lamination.
Laminating thick glass plies with stiff SGP interlayers demands extended de-airing and precise autoclave control. Our dedicated SGP processing line included:
Class 1 cleanroom layup to eliminate dust and contamination.
Vacuum bag de-airing with cycles optimized for the thickness and length of each panel.
Custom autoclave cycles in our large-format autoclave, achieving bubble-free, edge-to-edge adhesion for both double-ply and triple-ply configurations.
The resulting laminates behave as monolithic structural beams, with SGP ensuring that even in a worst-case breakage scenario, the glass remains integral and does not fall — a critical safety requirement for a busy research facility.
Biopolis 6 is a building designed to foster collaboration and well-being. Natural light and clear views are essential. All our glass plies are premium ultra-clear low-iron glass, eliminating the greenish tint of standard float glass. SGP interlayers provide superior optical clarity compared to PVB, with no yellowing or haze. The finished fins are transparent structural elements that disappear into the architecture, creating a light-filled, open atmosphere.
Shipping heavy, 6-meter-long glass panels from our factory in Henan to Singapore required meticulous export planning. We fabricated custom seaworthy transport stillages with full-contact cradles, multi-axis vibration dampening, and humidity-resistant packaging. The glass was securely containerized and shipped via ocean freight, with all documentation meeting Singapore’s stringent import standards. Every panel arrived on site in perfect condition, ready for immediate installation. This seamless international delivery demonstrates our capability to serve projects worldwide.
