At Zhongbo Glass, we are passionate about providing the transparent canvases that showcase humanity’s artistic achievements. The Tianfu Art Museum in Chengdu is a stunning cultural destination, its architecture conceived as a luminous pavilion where light and nature interact with the artworks within. The facade demanded a glazing solution that delivers museum-grade thermal stability, uncompromising optical clarity, and elegant geometric expression — all at a monumental scale. We were selected as the exclusive glass manufacturer to bring this vision to life.
Our mission was to supply super-jumbo triple-glazed insulated glass units in both flat and curved geometries, with panel heights reaching 7,250mm. Each unit features three 12mm ultra-clear tempered panes separated by two 20mm air cavities, achieving exceptional insulation for Chengdu’s varied climate while offering perfectly neutral transparency. The integration of flat and curved triple-glazed elements creates a seamless, flowing glass envelope that blurs the boundary between the museum’s interior galleries and the surrounding sculpture gardens. For Zhongbo Glass, the Tianfu Art Museum represents the pinnacle of our ability to combine extreme size, curved processing, and triple-glazed thermal engineering under one roof.
To realize the architect’s vision of a facade that is both fluid and thermally efficient, we engineered and produced two matching triple-glazed configurations, identical in material and performance yet distinct in form.
12mm Ultra-Clear Tempered + 20mm Air Cavity + 12mm Ultra-Clear Tempered + 20mm Air Cavity + 12mm Ultra-Clear Tempered — Triple Insulated Glass Unit
12mm Ultra-Clear Curved Tempered + 20mm Air Cavity + 12mm Ultra-Clear Curved Tempered + 20mm Air Cavity + 12mm Ultra-Clear Curved Tempered — Curved Triple Insulated Glass Unit
Common Excellence Across Both:
All Ultra-Clear Tempered Glass: Every 12mm pane is fabricated from premium low-iron glass, fully tempered to a surface compression exceeding 69 MPa. The ultra-clear composition eliminates the greenish tint of ordinary float glass, providing the pure, color-accurate daylight essential for an art museum.
Dual 20mm Air Cavities: The two generous 20mm air spaces create a highly effective thermal barrier, dramatically reducing heat transfer and ensuring the museum’s interior climate remains stable for the preservation of delicate artworks while minimizing energy consumption.
Exceptional Acoustic Insulation: The triple-glazed construction provides outstanding sound attenuation, shielding the galleries from outside noise and creating a serene viewing environment.
Robust Symmetrical Design: The symmetrical layering ensures balanced stress distribution across all three panes, enhancing long-term durability and structural integrity.
The maximum glass panel size for both flat and curved configurations reached 2,074mm in width by 7,250mm in height — a single triple-glazed unit standing over 7.2 meters tall and covering nearly 15 square meters. Each panel contains three sheets of 12mm tempered glass and weighs over a tonne when fully assembled with spacer frames and seals.
Producing curved triple-glazed insulating glass at this scale is an exceptional technical achievement. The three curved glass plies must be bent and tempered to an identical radius, then aligned with sub-millimeter precision during IGU assembly to maintain uniform cavity widths and a perfect hermetic seal. At Zhongbo Glass, we accomplished this with our integrated flat and curved production lines, delivering museum-quality glass that combines thermal efficiency with flawless optical performance.
Tempering 12mm ultra-clear glass at lengths over 7 meters requires a furnace capable of extraordinary temperature uniformity to prevent roller-wave distortion or bow — defects that would be immediately visible in the pristine gallery spaces. Our super-jumbo flat tempering furnace and super-jumbo curved tempering furnace, both capable of processing glass beyond 10,000mm, applied proprietary low-iron glass recipes to deliver perfectly flat and consistently curved tempered plies. For the curved units, each ply was bent to an exact, repeatable radius, ensuring the three panes matched perfectly for IGU assembly.
Assembling a curved triple-glazed insulating glass unit is one of the most challenging operations in architectural glazing. The three curved panes must be spaced at precisely 20mm intervals across their entire 7.25-meter height, with both spacer frames following the identical curvature. Any deviation would compromise the seal or create optical distortion. Our process included:
Custom curved spacer frames fabricated to match the exact radius of the tempered glass.
Laser-guided alignment in a dedicated curved IGU assembly station, positioning all three panes perfectly parallel along the curve.
Robotic dual-seal application on both spacer bars, creating a durable, hermetically sealed perimeter that resists moisture ingress and maintains cavity integrity for the life of the building.
Individual panel testing for dew point and seal durability, ensuring every curved unit performs as reliably as its flat counterpart.
Museums demand glass with zero visual distortion and perfect color neutrality. Our ultra-clear low-iron glass delivers the highest visible light transmission available, allowing artworks to be viewed in natural daylight without color shift. The flat tempered panels exhibit minimal roller wave, while the curved panels maintain a smooth, consistent curvature free of kinks or optical aberrations.
Transporting massive, heavy triple-glazed units — especially the more fragile curved variants — from our factory in Henan to the museum site in Chengdu required specialized logistics. We designed custom A-frame and curved-cradle transport stillages with enhanced vibration dampening. Air-ride trailers and carefully planned delivery routes ensured every panel, flat or curved, arrived on site in flawless condition, ready for immediate installation into the museum’s facade system.
The Tianfu Art Museum project showcases the rare, high-level capabilities that make Zhongbo Glass the preferred partner for world-class cultural architecture:
Dual-Format Triple Glazing Capacity: We are one of the very few manufacturers that can produce both flat and curved triple-glazed insulating glass units in jumbo sizes exceeding 7 meters, with identical thermal performance and aesthetic quality.
Integrated Flat and Curved Production Lines: Our factory houses both super-jumbo flat and curved tempering furnaces, enabling seamless production of matching flat and curved configurations for a single project.
Precision Curved IGU Assembly: Our dedicated curved IGU assembly technology ensures that the most challenging bent glass configurations meet the same rigorous seal and durability standards as flat units.
Ultra-Clear Commitment: All glass is premium low-iron, guaranteeing the brilliant, neutral transparency that museums demand for artifact display and visitor experience.
Proven Landmark Portfolio: The Tianfu Art Museum enriches our distinguished collection of cultural projects, including the Sui Tang Grand Canal Museum (9.2m heat-strengthened IGU), East Hall of Shanghai Museum (12.4m structural ribs), and the Peony Painting at Luoyang Peony Square (9m silk-screened IGU). Our track record of delivering complex, climate-appropriate glass for China’s most treasured public spaces is unparalleled.
The Tianfu Art Museum now greets visitors with a luminous glass facade that seamlessly blends flat and curved transparency — brought to life by Zhongbo Glass. We delivered 7,250mm × 2,074mm ultra-clear triple-glazed tempered insulating glass units in both flat and curved geometries, achieving the thermal stability, optical purity, and architectural fluidity that a world-class art museum demands. This project stands as a definitive example of our ability to manufacture the most challenging insulating glass configurations at a scale that few others can approach.
