When Xiaomi, one of the world’s most innovative technology companies, envisioned its global headquarters in Shenzhen, the architectural brief demanded a glass facade of extraordinary elegance and technical sophistication. The design called for a sweeping, curved glass envelope that seamlessly integrates structural safety, energy efficiency, and optical perfection. We atwere selected as the sole glass fabricator for this iconic project, entrusted with delivering some of the largest and most complex curved SGP laminated insulated glass units ever produced.
The Xiaomi International Headquarters features a dual-configuration curved facade: one utilizing heat-strengthened (semi-tempered) glass for superior optical flatness and Low-E performance, and another using fully tempered glass for maximum structural strength. Both configurations incorporate dual SentryGlas® Plus (SGP) interlayers and a thermally efficient argon-filled cavity. With panel lengths reaching 8,510mm, this project showcases our unrivalled ability to combine jumbo curved tempering, precision SGP lamination, and high-performance insulating glass assembly under one roof.
To address varying performance requirements across the building envelope, we engineered and supplied two distinct curved glass make-ups.

This configuration uses heat-strengthened (semi-tempered) glass with a surface compression between 24 and 52 MPa. The semi-tempered process virtually eliminates the roller-wave distortion and spontaneous breakage risk associated with fully tempered glass, providing a beautifully flat reflection on the curved surface. The outer laminate integrates a high-performance Low-E coating on the #3 surface, reflecting solar heat while transmitting abundant daylight.

For areas with higher structural demands, we fabricated a fully tempered curved configuration using 15mm thick glass plies. With surface compression exceeding 69 MPa, these panels offer extreme resistance to wind load, impact, and thermal stress. The dual SGP laminates on both the outer and inner panels guarantee post-breakage integrity, even under the most severe conditions.

Dual 2.28mm SGP Interlayers: SentryGlas® Plus offers five times the tear strength and significantly higher stiffness than PVB. Even if all glass plies fracture, the SGP holds the panel intact, preventing fall-out.
16mm Argon-Filled Cavity: The generous 16mm gap filled with high-purity argon gas, combined with the Low-E coating, achieves exceptional thermal insulation for Shenzhen’s subtropical climate.
The maximum glass panel size for this project reached an imposing 8,510mm in length by 2,410mm in width — a curved panel covering over 20.5 square meters and weighing several tonnes. Producing a curved laminated insulated glass unit at this scale requires every process — bending, tempering or heat-strengthening, laminating, and IG assembly — to perform at the absolute frontier of what is technically possible. At Zhongbo Glass, we not only achieved this; we delivered it across an entire building facade with consistent quality.
Our super-jumbo curved tempering furnace processes glass up to 12,000mm in length. For Configuration A, we applied proprietary heat-strengthening profiles that impart twice the strength of annealed glass while maintaining a surface compression below 52 MPa — ensuring optical flatness without the distortion of full tempering. For Configuration B, we achieved full tempering across the entire 15mm thickness and 8.5-meter length. All plies within each configuration were bent to identical radii for perfect lamination matching.
Applying a high-performance sputter-coated Low-E layer onto a curved, heat-strengthened substrate and then laminating it with SGP requires extraordinary care. We utilized our in-house, climate-controlled cleanroom for coating handling, automated edge deletion, and precise interlayer layup. The Low-E coating maintains its emissivity and integrity throughout the entire lamination and IG assembly process.
Laminating two curved glass plies with a stiff 2.28mm SGP interlayer — and then repeating this for both the outer and inner panels — demands perfect curvature matching. We employed vacuum bag de-airing systems designed for curved glass and a massive autoclave with carefully calibrated heat-pressure cycles. The result is a bubble-free, optically superior laminate with full-edge adhesion on both the outer and inner IG components.
Assembling two massive curved laminates into a hermetically sealed insulating glass unit with a uniform 16mm cavity is a masterpiece of precision engineering. We used synchronized curved lifting systems, laser-guided alignment, and robotic dual-seal application to create a perfect perimeter seal. Every panel was tested for argon retention and dew point to ensure long-term thermal performance.
Moving multi-ton, 8.5-meter curved IGUs from our Henan factory to the Xiaomi headquarters construction site in Shenzhen required bespoke logistics. We designed curved transport stillages with full-contact cradles, utilized air-ride trailers with active vibration monitoring, and coordinated night-time deliveries with full escort. Every panel arrived on-site dimensionally perfect, with zero defects, ready for immediate installation.
